Wood Turning
by Jeff Pitchard
Jeff Pitchard has an extraordinary, unique, dyslexia talent.
Jeff uses a technique called Wood Turning to turn unwanted pieces of wood into beautifully crafted objects that anyone would love to have in their home.
In fact, Jeff has trouble keeping hold of his creations because whoever sees them, wants them.
And ofcourse, Jeff being the gentleman he is, he can never say no.
Here is a sample of Jeff’s creations with his own descriptions.

This desk clock was made from a piece of gum tree root, found about to be burnt after some land clearing.
Its about 4 inches high.

This jewellery box was made as a present for my fiancé.
It is turned from cuts of floor boards thrown out at a building site and some red gum with aluminium glued in between the floor boards.
Its about 6 inches high.

These pens are some of the first pens I ever turned.
They are not very good but the only ones I have left at the moment.

People seem to like them and they make great gifts so they don’t seem to stay in my possession for long.

This ring box was turned from spalted mango ( spalted meaning that a fungus has grown in the wood.
This can do some very interesting things to the wood) I got a heap of spalter mango cheaply and this little ring box was made from scraps left over from other things.

Its only about 1 and a half inches high.

This small bowl is turned from spalted mango.

With the side view, you can see some of the nice colours the fungus brings out in the wood.
Without the fungus, mango is a rather plain whitish wood. It is about 3 inches high.

This small jewellery box is mango, with a red gum inlay and finial inside. It is floked (like a velvet covering).
Its about 4 inches high.
